"Eyes Of Texas" was taken in Camp Wood, Texas in 2001. I was coming home from the Davis Mountains and as usual, traveling the back roads for a possible photo opportunity. As I turned the corner, time was approaching sunset and I looked back to see the most beautiful old wooden windmill. It's backdrop was a tie dyed sunset of the most incredible color. I captured the windmill and returned to the truck only to be asked "did you see the deer?" I had not seen the deer but did indeed capture it on film. In the right corner slightly below the leaning tree, his eyes can be seen.
Mystical in it's hidden nature, I chose the name of this print that day. This is the first print I have copyrighted.
Windmills are the true eyes of Texas. They for years have been the center of ranches and used at times to find a location on the ranch. Cattle and wildlife travel miles seeking them for water. Windmills have watched all types of weather come and go on their precious land. As a matter of fact, they have seen land owners come and go as well. They stand majestically watching life of man and animal pass with little or no recognition. Such are the lives of many of us, we seldom notice the beauty that surrounds us. We dare to miss things until they are gone. Yet often even in a broken state of ill repair, there is still beauty left.
